The following descriptions are provided by the studios themselves. Classes are sorted by time. To see a description of general classes, please see Class Descriptions.

 

Many classes are suitable for multiple levels so please read the descriptions for more information.

 

Classes for Kids and Families
Family Yoga

10 - 11 AM, Healium Yoga

For parents with their under-fives. A specially designed sequence that fosters imaginative play while building body awareness, strength, and flexibility. Pre-natal appropriate. Babywearing encouraged!

Level: Open

 

Kids Yoga

1.30 - 2.15 PM, Anahata Yoga

We at Anahata Yoga studio teach traditional Hatha yoga with flow...allowing the breath to be the thread between the postures, building strength with the warrior sequencing, using the core for balance and foundation following with twists for health and wellbeing, and finishing our practice with a calm relaxation/meditation

Level: Kids from 5 years and upwards

 

Kids Yoga

3.30 - 4.15 PM, Healium Yoga

In these classes children ages 3 1/2 to 6 learn a number of basic yoga poses, work together in pairs and as a group, and develop an increased awareness of their bodies.

Pregnancy Classes
Pregnancy Yoga

11.15AM - 12PM, Healium Yoga

This is a gentle and relaxing class for pregnant women at all stages of pregnancy, relaxing, energizing and educational. You will leave with some simple moves and tools to use to make your pregnancy more comfortable and to prepare for labor. Learn about Sarrah here www.soothebirthsupport.co.nz

Pregnancy Yoga

3 - 4 PM, Centre for Higher Self

This class enables you to connect with other pre–natal women while tuning into your own breath, body & baby.

Our focus here is on opening the hips, relieving tension in the shoulder mantle, creating a level of familiarity with conscious breathing and vocal toning, cultivating awareness of the muscles involved in natural birth through pelvic floor exercises and also developing a conscious relationship with sensation through safe, yet intense, exercises.

Level: No experience is necessary and you can start at the point in your pregnancy when you feel ready, we recommend anytime after 14 weeks.

 

We are sorry to note that the Pregnancy Yoga Class at 5 pm at the Newtown Community Center has been cancelled. However, it has been replaced by the following class, which is suitable for pregnant women.

Yoga for Well Women

4 - 5 PM, Pop-Up Yoga Studio at 1 Grey St.

Soothe Yoga for Well Women is guided by the principles of balance, support and surrender. We will look at how and where we can cultivate these in our daily lives and our yoga practice, physically, physiologically and mentally. The class is a gentle intro designed to inspire you in your own practice. It includes warm ups, hip openers, balancing poses, gentle inversions and restorative poses. If you can please bring a cushion and a blanket to make yourself cozy during the relaxation. Pregnant women also welcome.

Level: All women welcome
