About Wellington Free Yoga Day

 

Free Yoga Day began in Austin, Texas, USA in 1999! It quickly grew in size and popularity, and has spread to other US cities. This year, we are bringing free yoga to Wellington.


On Monday 27th October 2014, you can experience a range of yoga classes, all for FREE!

 

Yoga classes will be offered at yoga studios, community centres, parks and fitness centres. Classes will begin in the morning and continue throughout the day into the early evening. There will be classes held in central Wellington, Thorndon, Newtown, Miramar and Petone.

 

Wellington Free Yoga Day provides an opportunity for our talented yoga teachers to share their knowledge of yoga.

 

There are many styles of yoga - Hatha, Iyengar, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, Raja - and each style is unique in the same way as styles of dance or music. Some yoga is physically challenging and athletic, and other styles are relaxing and focus on stretching and breathing. Each yoga teacher has their own style and will emphasise different aspects of yoga. See the class descriptions to find the right style to suit you.

 

Class Guidelines

 

  • Arrive early. Most classes will have a maximum number of participants

 

  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in

 

  • Please turn off your cellphones

 

  • Please bring a towel, blanket or yoga mat

 

  • Most yoga classes are taught barefoot

 

  • Be sure your stomach is neither too full or too empty

 

  • Don't worry about what everyone else is doing - go at your own pace and respect the limits of your body
